The end of the world
World's end doesn't sound as a nice thing since " the end of the world" could be the end of many great things we know. But we are not talking of an event rather a location. In Touristic terms a "World's end site " is generally referred to an edge of a mountain peak that will make you feel as if that is the very end of the earth it self. When you look down you might not quite see the bottom & the elevation of the peak will let you see endless country around it. There are five popular "World's end " sites in Sri Lanka. The most prominent & the deepest is at Horton Plains in Nuwara Eliya. The rest of the four places are known as " Mini World's end " sites. Namely there is one at Pitawala Pathana - Riverston , one at Madolsima in Badulla , one at Hulangala - Matale , one at Deanstone - Meemore Village.
The set of pictures you see here belongs to the Mini World's end site at Pitawala Pathana Riverston. You have to take the Riverson road from Raththota Town & drive nearly an hour until you reach this magnificent site. Before reaching Pitawala Pathana you will pass the Riverston peak it self. Once you reach Pitawala Pathana you could easily park the vehicle at the site car park. You need to buy a ticket that will cost Rs.32.00 for a Sri Lankan. Cross the road & enter the site. Pitawala Pathana is a plain with sub montane forest. You need to walk through the plains nearly a kilometer to reach the Mini World's end. It is extremely windy most of the time & could have quick rains on & off.
Be cautious while taking selfies or pictures. If you wear caps or hats , the chances of you losing them is 100 %. Enjoy the marvel of nature but make sure to not to liter the place.
